I chose Sinclair Broadcasting because I think their policy of forced news stories, stories they require their local affiliates to read by local anchors as if it’s their story but which are mandated by corporate, needs to be more widely known. The tone of the stories is definitely slanted conservative. The way some of them are phrased would be sustained on objection as leading the witness if used in a court of law and this needs more light shown on it. I realize freedom of the press is only guaranteed to those who own the press but the way this done I’d deceptive in the extreme and local affiliates are barred from making this known to their viewers. This is one platform for making that known.

… and because they are a primary news source for like 40 percent of rural America. (Pretty sure that’s what i read.)

They also own the ABC affiliate where I live in Portland Oregon and they own the ABC and NBC affiliates in our second biggest city so it isn’t only rural areas.

I've never heard them referred to as the alt-left before, having the word is helpful to me. I've noticed that they make up a lot of the Free Palestine movement, going online and telling people they deserve to die if they aren't informed about every boycott the movement has come up with, but at the same time not doing anything productive and telling people not to vote for democrats because there's a remote chance that they might support Israel. They are infuriating.

It’s all “believe women” and ME TOO pins, until they decide a keffiyeh is a better pose, then no care at all for women being raped and murdered. Fashion statements trump ideals.

Joe Biden voluntarily stepped away from what trump incited a riot desperately tried and failed to keep. Joe Biden did what he did because he felt it was best for the country. trump did what he did because it was best for him. The math figuring out who is the better and stronger person isn't that hard.

I've always thought the alt-left was basically white guys who still want 1950s gender and race roles, but also want to be able to have sex with the cool chicks and smoke pot.

That's pretty much it. They want so badly for white men to be in charge but they can't say that or they can't claim to be more progressive than thou.

Thanks for talking about the alt left. They made me lose my mind in 2016. But we know who they are now. In fact, we know a whole bunch more about a lot of things now. I can’t wait to see the K-hive clap back at whatever hatemongering bs they come up with. I actually think I hate them more than the brainwashed maga heads. I’m so freaking excited about crushing them all now thanks to the most patriotic man in the country, President Joe Biden.

Huh! I thought I knew the psychological underpinnings of "alt-left", but never identified misogyny. Perhaps there are some variations, or simply that you are a pro after all.

Very, very interesting! I can now see how they were largely incel types, I just never put the two together. I pushed them away as worthless parasites so cannot apply your observations, nor care.

Justin, you are very, very smart and cool. Thank you for your tireless work!!

How about a story on how the alt left, libertarians and Sinclair are intertwined in simplistic, myopic and self serving dogmas that feed the accelerationist insanity .

Maybe too much for one week ?😁

I have tried to point out to a friend that in my whole long life as a left leaning person I’ve only met one actual “ burn it all down “ leftist, but watched hundreds or thousands of the far right version on January 6. I would welcome some help with that one at some time in the near future.

Justin, thanks for explaining the alt-left. I never understood them before. Seems to me that alt-left and MAGA are both forms of nihilism, with much in common. Ugh.

25:00 [paraphrased] “Point out something terrible that only Republicans do and the alt-left will find a way to blame the Democrats, every single time.”

True. Because when they have nothing else the alt-left will ALWAYS fall back on “It’s the Democrats fault because they didn’t stop the Republicans.”

Riiiight. The Jan 6th violent coup was Joe Biden’s fault because he didn’t concede to Trump. The assassination of JFK was Jackie’s fault because she didn’t pull him out of the way. The Hamas attack was the Jew’s fault because they didn’t stay home instead of going to a concert. The Holocaust was Roosevelt’s fault because he didn’t stop Hitler from getting elected.

They're still blaming the overturning of Roe on Democrats because they cannot take responsibility for putting Trump in power.

Yup. It’s the usual Republican Mad Lib:

Oh man, remembering the Bernie bros, and how many of my friends were sucked in by that. I think the previous 30 years of attacks on Clinton contributed--not to the alt-left, but to the friends who were taken in.

Justin: Just listened to this one again as is popped up after today’s broadcast. I’d be interested to know how the alt left is framing Harris-Walz. I and many others were caught off guard in 2016 and didn’t realize who they were or where that point of view was coming from. I was one of those females who got out of the conversation because they were so hateful and seemingly dangerous. But forewarned is forarmed this time.

I also remembered all the “MMR” stuff the Bernie crowd was pushing. Doing away with our monetary system or something. It was all over our local Indivisible group till folks stopped commenting on it. Was this the alt left and did they drop that one?

Thanks for keeping us informed about who all these ass hats are!

Let me give you all a terrific example of why quitting Twitter is a good thing, I quit Twitter 19 months ago and until he was mentioned in this podcast, I had completely forgotten than a human walked this earth called Michael Tracey

A nice reminder of how irrelevant these people are, I’m in the top 5% of political junkies but even me reading and listening to politics stuff all day every day found that just being off Twitter means that a surprising number of people who used to fill you with rage every day it turns out literally nobody off that website knows exist, Tracey a prime example

I wouldn’t be so sure Chicago 68 is completely off the table, thanks to the people from the second half of the pod

They’re gonna ask a bunch of Palestine questions and anything short of ‘I’m bombing Israel and supporting Hamas’ won’t be enough for these alt-left cranks and they will turn up in Chicago to cause trouble
