I am one third through reading this and I had to stop and stand up, cheer, give thumbs up, re-stack the article and deem that you are hereby awarded my BEST ARTICLE OF THE MONTH AWARD! This is so spot on! I always argue with anyone who starts up with the idiotic….”rural people feel ignored”…bullshit. Your call-out that they are angry because giving other people a glance of equality means rural rights are being taken away in THEIR racist minds! As if no one else has suffered economic turmoil. Remember 2008 anyone? So, back to finish reading this brilliant piece. Thank you for writing it. I feel better seeing the truth in writing already.

It’s always been clear that a main driver of white heterosexual anger is minority groups being recognized as having exactly the same rights as those white heterosexuals already have.

They have to mask it by claiming that those other groups want “special“ rights. But if you ask them what exactly those special rights are, they’ll twist themselves into knots to avoid answering. Or, if they do start to name a “special“ right, it will be something they themselves already have and want to keep to themselves. Because if others got what they have, then they wouldn’t be able to feel superior.

It’s all so “You can’t have what I have because I am so insecure.“

Exactly! Insecurity that a brown person can be smarter, more business savvy and more friends.

No, worse than that. It’s not just that “a brown person“ might be better, they’re terrified that one might be just as good.

It goes with the “they can’t have exactly the same rights and privileges that I do” mindset. It’s essential to the insecure that others not be put on an equal footing with them, either in the rights and privileges that they have, or in recognizing their capabilities. It’s essential to them that they have some thing they can point to that they have that the others don’t since that’s the only way they can feel worthwhile.
